KERAMIDA Fellowship for Greek Culture
Multiple awards worth up to $20,000 each
Application Deadline: January 15, 2024.
Fellowship Overview
The KERAMIDA Foundation for Sustainable Living supports a Fellowship program through which to advance our mission among the next generation of thinkers and change-makers. The KERAMIDA Foundation believes that the exploration of Greek culture, both ancient and contemporary, can be instrumental in inspiring the pursuit of education, both academic and experiential.
Ancient Greeks, particularly in Athens where democracy was born, believed that education is a requirement for a healthy and productive society. Through this belief in education, Ancient Greeks gave the world philosophy, medicine, theater, sports and the Olympic Games, mathematics, engineering, sciences, literature, poetry, history, architecture, art, gastronomy, legal debate, rhetoric, and the first university. Modern Greece continues to produce world-renowned artists, writers, scientists, musicians, engineers and doctors.
Ancient Greece was the first society to make education available to all its citizens as they believed that democracy cannot truly function without education, a revolutionary idea then, and even later where for many centuries education was kept only for royals and members of religious groups.
